Dauphin Island Race 2019

Got the T-Shirt!

April 26, 27, and 28 is the weekend of the 61st Dauphin Island Race.  The last race we entered with OneEighty was in 2017 where we placed FIRST in our division, racing in 20+knots of wind on a shortened course. This was a make-up race because the original race was cancelled due to bad weather.
This year would be different.  Racing this year are Quinn, Charles and boat-building and sailing friend, Bob McKay.  At the start of the race the wind dropped to 2 knots from the NW, and we sat close to the start line for almost an hour.  Our boat weighs over 22000 pounds and she does not do well in very light air. Later the wind picked up and we actually sailed quite well, but never could make up our deficit.  It was a long race, we did some things right, and some things wrong, but in the end, we did not score well, but we did get a 3rd place in our fleet, and we got a free T-Shirt.  Most of all we had fun.
This is our camper trailer for the weekend.

Old guys and dogs early Sunday morning drinking coffee and telling stories.

Skippers meeting at the MYC, and announcements by USCG and Mobile YC Race committee.

On Friday night we docked at Turner Marine on the South Wall.

Third in class is sorta like a participation trophy.  Its not saying we were very good.
We did a Mediterranean Mooring at Dauphin Island and had our stern tied to the dock, but let our boat rest in 8 feet of water.  The slips were to be under 4 feet at low tide, and we would not have been able to get out.
